Ravyn Kontis is a Pardalia Were-Hunter. His first mate was Isabeau, though he never finished the mating ceremony with her. She told her village about Arcadians, and the humans slaughtered all of the women and children of Ravyn's patria. Mad with grief over the loss of his wife and children, Ravyn's brother Phoenix stabbed him to death, and their father Gareth spat on Ravyn's dying body.
Ravyn became a Dark-Hunter so he could get revenge on the humans who killed half his family. Gareth not only denounced Ravyn for becoming a Dark-Hunter, but disowned him as well. He was classified as an exoristos, which precluded any member of his clan from even speaking his name.
This continued for centuries, until Susan Michaels rescued him from an animal shelter while he was stuck in his cat form. He finished the mating with her, but chose not to petition for the return of his soul from Artemis. Susan helped the Kontis men reconcile.
